Emergency Medical Technician

This course is designed to prepare the student to enter the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B). In Missouri, the EMT-B is the entry level position to work on an ambulance. Additionally, EMT-Bs work for industries, hospitals and fire departments. Classroom time is spent both in didactic work as well as hands on skills. EMT-B skills include evaluating the severity of a patient's illness or injury, establishing an airway, bleeding control, bandaging wounds, splinting broken bones, electrical defibrillation, pre-hospital child birth, vehicle rescue and driving an ambulance. In addition to the classroom, students are required to spend a total of 100 hours* of clinical observation time in a hospital emergency department, 911 dispatch center and on an ambulance. Qualifying graduates will enjoy the on-site accessibility of the Missouri practical exam, as IHM is a hosting facility. Registration services for the requisite examinations will be conducted during the course of educating, prior to graduation
